Minutes of Monthly SPARC Meeting – July 11, 2025

The meeting was called to order at 19:30

The club officers and board members in attendance were:

First Time Attendees:

Recognition – Fred (W2SUB) worked museum ships, there were also a few notable contacts, Glenn (N4GRC) worked all of Southeast Asia, Mary (KQ4APT) worked Argentina on 10 meters FT8, Alex (KO4CEE) with a POTA Activation (Sawgrass Lake Park).  Additionally, several members made QSOs in all Thirteen Colonies.  

The minutes from the June 2025 meeting were posted on the website and have been approved as distributed by a majority vote.

Club Treasurer, Will, W7WMS gave the monthly Treasurer’s Report.  He reported the balances for the month.  He also reported membership stats for this month (currently 133 members).

The club welcomed new members.  The new members are:

  • Braiden Braaten, KK4BLU
  • Tim Benton, KR4ESB
  • Alex Tobin, KR4ESA
  • Nick Ingrande, KR4ERZ

A motion was made by Bruce – K2BHS to approve the new members.  Mike – K4HN seconded.  The motion passed by unanimous consent.

Will, W7WMS reported on VE Testing for June 2025 – It was reported that there were three new Technicians and one Extra upgrade.  The next VE Session is on 8/19/25.

The Club station was looking for a replacement for the tower fixture.  A replacement was purchased for $500.

Tom, NY4I mentioned the possibility of the Club Station being opened on one Saturday per month for a few hours, beginning in August 2025.

Dee, N4GD reported that all three repeaters are working and operational at this time.

Paul, KA4IOX – Events/Activities Coordinator, spoke about the next operating event is the NAQP RTTY Contest on 7/19/25 from 14:00 – 0200.  Sign up sheet is available for those that are interested in participating.

Alex, KO4CEE gave the Net Manager’s report for both nets for June.  The totals were as follows:

  • QNI: 805 total check-ins (777 for the 2-meter net & 28 for the 220/440 net)
  • QTC: 31 messages passed (29 for the 2-meter net & 2 for the 220/440 net)
  • QND: 998 minutes (16.63 hours) (954 for the 2-meter net & 44 for the 220/440 net)

Tom, NY4I gave the preliminary results for Field Day 2025.  The results were as follows:

  • Total of 2358 QSOs (more than ever done) across all modes.
  • CW: 400
  • Digital (FT8, etc): 746
  • SSB/Phone: 1212

Tom, NY4I commended and congratulated Bruce, K2BHS on his performance with WFLA-TV (Channel 8).  WFLA’s reporter Jenna Bass and photographer Jamie Cicalese were on hand covering the event.  Tom further mentioned that the “bar” was raised.

July’s Program was WinLink presented by Mike Drake, WA1RYQ of Pinellas County ACS

New Business:

AA2MF, Richie suggested that a banner gets created that includes all three clubs (CARS, SPARC & UPARC) for joint events (e.g.: Field Day, etc.).

Terry, K2TLC won the 50/50 with a total jackpot of $33.  Congratulations!
