Minutes of Monthly SPARC Meeting – August 1, 2025

The meeting was called to order at 19:30

The club officers and board members in attendance were:

All members introduced themselves

Recognition – Several members worked rare DX.  AAØO – Pat received his 13 Colonies Certificate.  Several members got a 13 Colonies sweep using multiple modes  

The minutes from the July 2025 meeting were posted on the website and have been approved as distributed by a majority vote.

Club Treasurer, Will, W7WMS gave the monthly Treasurer’s Report.  He reported the balances for the month.  He also reported membership stats for this month (currently 137 members).

The club welcomed new members.  The new members are:

  • Joseph Battikhi, KR4FJI
  • Wesley Wells, KR4FJJ

A motion was made by Bruce – K2BHS to approve the new members.  Mike – K4HN seconded.  The motion passed.

Bruce, K2BHS reported that the July 2025 minutes are on the website.  He also reported that he is always looking for members to assist with the newsletter by contributing articles.

Dave, KR4U reported everything is working and functional.  He also reported about some minor issues including the Icom rig’s ability to tune the 80-meter antenna.  He additionally reported that repairs on the tower are slated including the replacement of the 15-meter element and the winch. It was also reported that there are possible issues with Windows 11 but determined there are none at this time.  All former Windows 10 computers should be able to transition.  The Windows 10 subscription was renewed for another year.  It was also determined that there were no changes made to the network at DMI at this time.

Dee, N4GD reported that all three repeaters are working and operational at this time.

Pat, AAØO reported on VE Testing for June 2025 – It was reported that there were two new Technicians and one General upgrade.  The next VE Session is on 8/19/25, with one candidate scheduled thus far.

Paul, KA4IOX – Events/Activities Coordinator, reported that there was a good turnout for the NAQP RTTY Contest on 7/19/25.   There were 381 QSOs resulting in a raw score of 38,419.  The participants were: WF1B, K2BHS, N4GRC, NY4I & KB8ESY.  He also reported that there is an upcoming NAQP FL QSO Party SSB Contest on 8/16/25 from 14:00 – 0200.  The club will be running two stations, per contest rules.  Sign-up sheet is available for those that are interested in participating.

Alex, KO4CEE gave the Net Manager’s report for both nets for July.  The totals were as follows:

  • QNI: 658 total check-ins (619 for the 2-meter net & 39 for the 220/440 net)
  • QTC: 34 messages passed (31 for the 2-meter net & 3 for the 220/440 net)
  • QND: 1114 minutes (18.57 hours) (1056 for the 2-meter net & 58 for the 220/440 net)

Tom, NY4I mentioned the Club Station will be opened on Saturday, 8/9/25 from 10:00 – 14:00 for anyone that wants to operate.  Members are welcome to bring their own rig if they choose.  There will be mentoring available for anyone who wants it.

Hal, W1EES will head up the nominating committee again this year.  Nominations will take place in October and the elections will be held in November.

Bill, WZ4GW will be celebrating his 25th anniversary as a Net Control Station for the SPARC Net, on the net for Friday, 8/25/25.  His first net as an NCS was on 8/18/00.  He would like to see a large check-in count to celebrate this momentous anniversary.

August’s Program was Repeaters presented by the SPARC Repeater Trustee, Alex Harvey, KO4CEE.

New Business:

Bruce, K2BHS raised the possibility of the club acquiring Berringers for each station in the shack.  It was determined that the club already has at least one available for use.

Alex, KO4CEE won the 50/50 with a total jackpot of $23.  He donated his winnings back to the club. Congratulations Alex and thank you!
