Minutes of Executive Board Meeting for SPARC – May 31, 2025

The meeting was called to order at 15:01

The club officers and board members in attendance were:

  • NY4I – Tom (President)
  • AB4YI – Carol (Vice President)
  • W7WMS – Will (Treasurer)
  • K2BHS – Bruce (Secretary/Newsletter Editor)
  • KR4U – Dave (Club Station W4GAC Trustee)
  • KI4UIP – John (Board Member)
  • KA4IOX – Paul (Events Coordinator)
  • KO4CEE – Alex (Repeater Trustee)
  • AAØO – Pat (President Emeritus)
  • KZØJ – Nick (Board Member)

Minutes from the last Board Meeting have been approved as distributed and are on the website.

Work on the tower was discussed.  Will look into renting a fixture to lift the tower vs. buying due to the cost.  Additionally, the rotor is in need of repair, will address when tower work is done.  Dismantling one of the feedlines for the 160-meter antenna was discussed.

There was a brief discussion about Field Day 2025.  A couple of the related items were:

  • Planning Committee meetings have already begun
  • Budget up to $400 for food.
  • W4TA will be the callsign used for the event
  • Class 3A or 3F (F is an EOC). Leaning towards a 3A, but still TBD at this time.

A motion was made to approve spending up to $400 towards food for Field Day. Motion was made by K2BHS – Bruce, seconded by KR4U – Dave.  The motion was passed.

Alex (KO4CEE) reported that the repeaters are working.  We received the new Kenwood 2-meter repeater, the install date is TBD at this time. 

Carol (AB4YI) – Is looking to set up meetings for the Bylaws review in the near future.

A possibility of offering food for sale at the next SPARC Fest (November 2025) was discussed as the is a showing of interest in this.

Club Treasurer, Will, W7WMS gave a membership report. There was a membership count of 125 at the time of this meeting.  Will also accentuated the benefits of being an ARRL Member.  He also mentioned the possibility of having a “club station” orientation for any interested members approximately once per month.

Midyear Review of VE Testing sessions.  It was mentioned that the amount of candidates per session have declined in the past few months.

Secretary/SPARC Gap Newsletter Editor, Bruce, K2BHS reported that he is always looking for members to contribute material and/or write articles for the newsletter.

A motion was made to spend up to $500 for a lift.   Motion was made by W7WMS – Will, seconded by K2BHS – Bruce. Motion passed by a majority vote.

The Executive Board Meeting was adjourned at 16:45
